August Hubpages Earnings Report

August has ended and these are the earnings that I have earned through Hubpages in August.

Adsense  $302.29

Amazon  $121.07

Ebay         $286.98

For a total of  $710.34

I was a little disappointed that my Ebay went down this month, however, last month I had a very large Ebay sale.  On the other hand my Adsense and Amazon both went up significantly, which continued to grow my total numbers.

In the month of August, I only wrote 8 new hubs.  Now that my kids are back in school, I am going to work on writing at least one hub a day to revv up the growth of the revenue from these three vendors.  However, as you can see evidenced by the clear growth of my income, the strategies that I have put into place are working, and I can clearly see the income growth from continuing on Hubpages.

I am going to set my goals high this month, and shoot for the moon.  My goal for September is to earn $1000.00 revenue from all three vendors combined.

Learning to Write to Attract Adsense Earnings

Being a retailer, and sales person, it was easier for me to learn how to target keywords to attract buyers of products, especially tangible items.  However, many people make a very nice passive income from Google Adsense on Hubpages, and on their own blogs.

This has made me determined to learn how to write articles to attract people who will click on Google Adsense ads.  Part of this process is really understanding how to find the best keywords for your articles. Another part is learning what kind of articles do the best with Google Adsense income.

I am trying an experiment on Hubpages right now, on a secondary account I have with some hubs designed just for Google Adsense.  I wrote the first one today, so we will see how it does.  I am trying to write hubs that will be found on Google without too much effort on my part other than researching the keywords, and writing the article, but will provide more Adsense income than I have received so far.

Don’t get me wrong.  I have been steadily increasing my Adsense income over time on Hubpages.  Right now if I continue to earn at the same rate as I have been for this month, I am slated to make just under $300 from Adsense this month.  However, I know that some hubbers make as much as $100 per day from Adsense alone, so I am striving to increase that income stream.  Because Adsense is a pay per click system, it pays out faster than many pay per sale programs, paying out the commission from the previous month near the end of each month.

Joining the 60 Day Challenge

I have decided to join the 60 Day Challenge team run by one of my favorite hubbers, Sunforged.  This will help me focus my hubbing efforts toward raising my income from Hubpages.

If you want to follow along with my efforts, you are welcome to take a look at the Hublog for this project, Doubling the Profit From My Niche | 60 Day Challenge Hublog.  In the Hublog, I will be chronicling the journey for the next 60 days as I write a minimum of 30 hubs, and then follow the teams promotion methods.  As you probably already know, I am working on building an income to pay for the bottom line expenses for my gallery with the assumption that my online earnings can pay them if I had not even one sale in a month in the brick and mortar store.  These expenses include rent, heat, insurance, telephone, etc.

The truth is that I do have sales in my gallery regularly, but if I can just pay my expenses each month, then I could use the regular sales money to pay artists more quickly, and continue to increase my inventory of items for sale in the gallery and online.

My hubpages journey so far has provided a steady income stream that has been growing at a good rate, but I am hoping that with the 60 Day Challenge, I will rev it up quite a bit, and actually double my July earnings by the end of the 60 days.  The earnings that I am tracking for this challenge are just from Amazon, Adsense, and Ebay, which are primarily funded from Hubpages, although a very small percentage comes from other sources.

I do get other income from Hubpages, but that is not going to be part of the challenge for me.

You can also follow this challenge on Twitter with the hashtag #60dc for new hubs being written by me, and other people.

Strategy Results Paying Off Already

I am glad to report that the strategy that I adopted last month to up my Amazon Associates sales is clearly paying off already.  I chose what I thought would a popular topic and created several hubs surrounding that topic.  Today is the 6th day of August, and I already have 12 shipped items on my Amazon Associates account.

So I will continue working this strategy to push myself to the next level on Amazon.

I am already way behind my strategy for August in that I haven’t even written one hub yet this month.  I am going to start catching up today and over the weekend.  I have several topics ready to go, I just haven’t written them.  Just goes to show that you do not have to be perfect to get things done.

July Hubpages Earnings Report and Goals for August

I am jumping for joy with the continued growth from Hubpages in traffic, and earnings from Amazon, Adsense, and Ebay.  Although I did not get to spend nearly as much time as I would have liked on Hubpages this month due to the focus on Professional Squids, my account grew quite a bit.

Here are the numbers for July:

New hubs written–14
Amazon earnings–$77.69
Adsense earnings–$207.32
Ebay earnings–$314.49

My overall interim goal has been to get to $600 for the month.  The total of what I earned here this month was $599.60.  I am going to consider that reaching my $600 goal, and set a new goal. I have to keep in mind that the reason I am doing all this is to pay for my bottom line monthly expenses for my gallery business.  That means that I need about $2000 per month for telephone, utilities, and rent.  I am about 1/4 of the way there, and should be able to grow my earnings faster because they are growing exponentially based on the previous month’s earnings.

Therefore, my new goal is to get to $1000 a month from Ebay, Amazon, and Adsense.  Since Adsense does not seem to be growing as well for me, I am going to focus on Amazon and Ebay and write targeted hubs that point to those two sites.  In order to really jumpstart this goal, I am going to write 2 hubs per day 5 days a week.  On the weekends I will focus on writing articles to build backlinks to my hubs.

One tactic that I have learned which would work well on both Hubpages and Squidoo is to write my hubs in groups, or at least plan them in groups.  This is what I did recently with the Swarovski group of hubs.  I have other similar groups on other topics planned for this month.  I often plan the group at the same time, then secure the urls, and write a couple a day or whatever I can get done.  Then I link them together with a link module.

This strategy seems to be working for me, although I do find that 1 of the hubs in each group tends to outpace the rest, which is fine.  Hopefully, it is sending traffic to other hubs in the group.

Hubpages Traffic

I thought that I would write a post about a comparison of the levels of traffic I am getting on Hubpages vs. Squidoo.  I now have 271 hubs, and 248 lenses although I have deleted a few lenses lately so it is fair to compare the traffic on the two sites.

If you have been following my posts elsewhere, you know that I have been really pushing the envelope lately on Squidoo with republishing pages often in order to experiment with lensrank and traffic.  When I publish a page on either Squidoo or Hubpages, it automatically tweets to my Twitter account.  On Hubpages, you cannot republish, just edit afterward, but on Squidoo when I republish, it tweets every time as if it was a new publish.

With all of that attention, my Squidoo pages totally are getting 3727 visits a week per my stats today, and that is in the week that I won the Sunshine Award.

On Hubpages, without much backlinking, my total traffic is 8250 per week.  This is with almost no backlinks, bookmarks, or other promotions other than my tweets.  So most of this traffic is from search engines.  I have to say that I am very impressed.  Due to the traffic levels, my sales from affiliates are increasing monthly, and although it is not yet the end of the month, I can tell you that Adsense, Ebay, and Amazon will all beat last month.  I will not have the final numbers until Sunday or Monday.

I am sure that if I did more to promote the hubs like attaching them to blog posts more, etc, my traffic would be even better.  But instead, I am spending my time writing more hubs and letting the search engines find them.

Seeing Results of Strategic Thinking

I check my Amazon Associates account once a day to see what has been purchased, and what has been shipped.  As you probably already know, we get paid on what actually ships during a calendar month, not on what has been purchased or ordered.  This is typical of most companies, and many companies do not even charge the customer until the item ships unless they need to purchase raw materials.

Anyway, to get back to what I was saying, I checked my Amazon account today to see that one of my strategies to increase Amazon commissions is already working.  This is the strategy of getting more sales by having some smaller less expensive items that people want to buy in quantity.  Today I had a sale of 6 packages of Swarovski beads from one of my Swarovski crystal hubs.  That counts as 6 items for Amazon’s percentage calculations.  This will help drive my commission up to the next level of 7% of the sale vs. the 6.5% I am getting now.  I am also working to get more higher priced items bought at the same time which will increase the dollar amounts of my commissions faster.

Sometimes it is discouraging when you aren’t close to your goals by the last week of the month, but I want to encourage you to persist in your continued efforts through the very last day of every month, because you never know which item or which day will bring that big purchase, and you can continue to earn money until the very last day of every calendar month.  July has 31 days, and the 31st is still 4 days away.  I still have today and 4 more days to meet and exceed my goals for this month.

Driving Up the Income from a Specific Vendor

I have been noticing that my Amazon income has plateaued at about $50 per month for the last few months.  So I have decided to work on increasing it.  I have made the 6.5% income rate for the last three months, so in order to increase the income level, I just need more sales.

More sales will be more income from more sales, and it will take me to the next level 7%.  So in order to increase my Amazon sales, I have created a series of hubs around one topic that I found on Amazon.  The niche I decided to write about has both low and higher end priced items, so that I will get more quantity of sales needed to raise the rate to 7%, and also more income in general from the fewer but higher dollar items.  I decided to do about 7 to 10 hubs in this niche, all sending people to Amazon.

To help me keep this straight, all of the hubs are going to be in the same group, for my own organization, and they will also be interlinked to help people jump from one hub to another.

Here is the first one I wrote which also is holiday related because I am already writing hubs for this year’s Christmas shopping season:

The Value of Social Activity on Hubpages

Those of us who are lensmasters on Squidoo, have come to realize that there is actually a monetary value to building a social network on Squidoo.  The monetary value is both immediate and far reaching.  The immediate value of a wide network of social contacts on Squidoo is that other lensmasters can vote your lens up or down, and can help it maintain its lensrank through their interaction with your page.  The far reaching value of your network is that a strong network of followers will vote for your page, refer people to your page, and bless your page if they are angels.  All of these activities can boost your lensrank which in turn actually earns you money on Squidoo.

Other activities that followers can offer Squidoo lensmasters can be duplicated on other sites including Hubpages, such as linking to your page, sending traffic to your page though tweets and other backlinks, and working as a team to promote a group of pages.  This is seen here on Crabbysbeach by the social activity of Squidoo lensmasters.

What is different on Hubpages?

Hubbers do not earn any money directly from their pages on Hubpages.  Hubpages does not pay you.  They, instead, offer you the opportunity to earn money directly from affiliate programs.  Therefore, you do not get any direct benefit from other Hubbers visiting your pages.  So, it is not necessary at all to interact with the forums on Hubpages to earn money on your hubs, nor to rank well.  However, there are some far reaching monetary reasons to interact in the Hubpages forums.  The main reason is that the Hubpage community is very supportive, and has succeeded in offering excellent advice for new Hubbers, and several Hubbers offer unique group activities to help you earn more money from your Hubs.  The best example that I can offer is Sunforged, who recently created a 60 day challenge that vastly boosted the success of the participants in his program.

By becoming a participant in the forums, you will boost your Hubscore some, although that is not really necessary for success on Hubpages.   Hubscore is not like LensRank.  It does not affect your earnings at all unless it is under 75.

One thing to keep in mind about Hubpages, is while Squidoo was originally set up to raise money for charity, Hubpages was set up as a business model from the first, and I think you can see that is the more straightforward and simple construction of the site.

Monthly Hubpages Earnings Report–June 2010

Hi all,

Sorry I haven’t been on this blog for a few weeks, as many of you know I have been hard at work starting up the Professional Squids site, and if you have not checked it out yet you are definitely missing something.  To register for Professional Squids, or to log in, go here.

When I reported my May earnings from Hubpages, I also set some goals for June.  At the time, I didn’t know that I would become Community Manager of Professional Squids, and the time I spent there definitely affected my other earnings in June.  However, even with my focus elsewhere, I still earned significantly more in June than in May.

My original goals for June were:

In the month of May, I earned a total of $350.37 from Hubpages.  This is broken down to $140.04 from Ebay, $160.85 from Adsense, and $49.48 from Amazon.  One of the things I like about Adsense and Ebay is that they pay out the following month as long as you hit their threshold which I have done, so I know those will pay out in June.

I have set a goal for June to double my payments from Adsense and Ebay, and get to 112 orders on Amazon.

Here is what I earned in June:

Adsense:  $180.78

Ebay:  $238.55

Amazon: $35.36 with 31 orders shipped.

Total earned from all three was $454.69

I also earned money from both Commission Junction and Shareasale from Hubpages.

So as you can see the growth was significant even without as much imput from me this month.

One of the things that is great about both Ebay and Adsense is that they both pay out the next month as long as you reach your payout threshold.  Amazon’s is 60 days, so I have to wait longer for that, but once you get a pattern going, that pays out monthly as well.

So, it is time to refocus for July, and post my new goals:

In July, I would like to get both Adsense, and Ebay up to $300 each, and work on my goal of getting to 112 orders on Amazon.  This will take me to the 7% level.  I just made the 6.5% level in June.

Anyone else willing to post goals here?
